What is The Sharing Shack?

The Sharing Shack is just that...a shack. What makes it special? Inside, you will find items available for guests to borrow. Things like sleeping bags, bear spray, coolers, hiking sticks, and more! All items are available to be borrowed and returned after your adventure so that you can save money, save time, and give back to others seeking adventure!

How it works

Visit the Sharing Shack

We currently have one location in Columbia Falls, MT, just 20 minutes from the West entrance to Glacier National Park.

Borrow What You Need

Bear Spray, sleeping bags, toilet paper, and more! View a list of commonly available items.

Return Borrowed Items

Once your adventure comes to a close, return the items you borrowed back to the shack.

These are the most common items we have at the shack for your use. We cannot promise their availability, however we encourage you to stop by before making a purchase as you may be able to save hundreds of dollars!

This includes being respectful of any items you borrow and when interacting with other guests and visitors. 

Items Must Be Returned

This resource is meant for those who wish to borrow and return reusable items. It is NOT a thrift shop, gift shop, or a place to take things from to other National Parks. What you borrow from here, should be returned here.

Leave It Better Than You Found It

Please be courteous of the property, The Sharing Shack building itself, and the contents inside.

Hours of Operation

Dawn to Dusk. There is no power at The Sharing Shack, so please visit during daylight hours only.

Empty Coolers

Please empty and clean borrowed coolers for the next person to use.

Sleeping Bags, Bedding and Clothing

Please launder your sheets, jackets, sleeping bags, pillowcases and related articles OR drop them in the dirty bin if you cannot wash them before your return to the shack.

No Alcohol, Drugs, or Related Substances

We do not accept the distribution of alcohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, or other like subtances. These items are prohibited. 

Food (Perishable / Non-Perishable)

Leftover snacks and non-perishable items are for sharing/taking. You do not have to replace or return any food items. Consume opened items at your own risk. Please discard and do not leave behind any perishable items or anything that requires refrigeration as this is not available at the Shack. 


Trash Disposal

The Sharing Shack does not have trash service on site. Please discard items in appropriate recipricals at your location or otherwise. 

Bear Spray

If you borrow bear spray, you are expected to familiarize yourself with it's proper uses and instructions. Manufacturers instructions/safety pamphlets are provided at the shack. You may also find helpful information about bear safety, bear spray and it's functions at linked here:  Bear Spray Tips


The Sharing Shack is not responsible for misue of injury as a result of borrowing Bear Spray. 


DO NOT deploy bear spray within the Sharing Shack.


The Sharing Shack only accepts New/Unused cans of bear spray. The internal contents create a sticky residue that we want to prohibit from cross contaminating other items and guest contact. If you deploy your bear spray, please properly dispose of it and do not return it to the Sharing Shack.

The Sharing Shack works because our community and borrowers live out generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Please review our rules and guidelines before borrowing/returning items to the sharing shack so that we can continue to operate as we are designed to.

Donate Items

We accept any recreational/outdoor related items that fit within our rules & guidelines at the Sharing Shack. If you have concerns about your items being too large for our current facility, or have questions, please contact email us: contact@thesharingshack.org

Support the Shack

We currently accept cash donations at The Sharing Shack. Our digital giving platform will be available in summer 2026! Check back for updates. If you would like to send a digital payment now , please send us an email and we will set that up with you. contact@thesharingshack.org.

Volunteer

Many in our community show up throughout the season to tiddy up the Sharing Shack, organize, dispose of trash, etc. You're welcome to assist anytime! Occassionaly throughout the year we have some more "hands-on" activities that could use some willing and able folks.
